Discovery

Brainstorm

Start in the fog. Map the problem space, surface assumptions, and open up solution directions before narrowing to a single path. The goal is quantity of thinking, not quality of output.

Thought clarification

I resist jumping to a solution until the real problem is named. This phase is about diverging, getting all the constraints, stakeholder fears, and user pain points on the table so the design that follows is solving the right thing.

ABOUT

LET'S
BUILD IT.

I've been doing this a long time, going on 25 years.

My story starts at a startup in 1998, right in the thick of the .com bubble. I was fumbling through Perl code and shadowing the sys admin team, trying to figure out if tech was really my thing. Turns out, I wasn't cut out to be a programmer. Luckily, I found an incredible program at UC Berkeley in Information Management & Systems, applied, got in, and never looked back. I took the HCI track, and that focus has never left me, it's still the lens through which I do all of the product design activities.

Every job since has added something. Every client, every challenge, every messy problem has sharpened how I work. I bring all of it to whatever comes next. And my favorite part? Talking to users. Sitting with clients. Understanding the real problem before anyone touches a solution. The design is deeply satisfying, but it's the people and the discovery that make it worth doing. And of course... my incredible coworkers I have had the great pleasure of learning from and working with over my career.
